Salma is a recognised international expert on shoulder and elbow healing.

  • She holds a PhD from Oxford University in Orthopaedic Surgery focused on shoulder degeneration and surgical and biological techniques to improving tendon healing, and has published widely on these areas.
  • To date she has received over £450,000 in grants to research shoulder and elbow problems.
  • Salma is an Associate Editor for one of the leading British Orthopaedic Journals (British Joint Journal 360).
  • Through her roles on national research committees, she contributes to overseeing and helping guide orthopaedic research. She sits on the Research Council for the British Elbow and Shoulder Society (BESS) and until recently was an Executive Committee member for the British Orthopaedic Research Society (BORS).
  • Salma has been invited to extensively lecture and teach internationally and nationally in the USA, Europe and the UK.

Education and Training

Salma studied medicine at Cambridge University (MB BChir)

She holds a Masters in Anatomy from Cambridge University.

Her PhD (Dphil) was completed at Oxford University in Orthopaedic Surgery, focusing on rotator cuff degeneration and augmented repair techniques.

All of her surgical and orthopaedic training was undertaken in Oxford where she completed her Fellowship, Registrar Training and Basic Surgical Training.

She was awarded the prestigious BESS travelling – HSS, Mayo, Basel
